Welcome to Greyhounds On Show. This event is a spin off the Racing Queensland Greyhound Sweepstakes, with a bit of a twist. 2021 was the very first year an event of this kind was held at the Ipswich Show.
We thank the Ipswich Show Society for enabling the event to take place. The concept was the brainchild of the late Mr Ray Underwood, who was passionate about promoting the greyhounds to the general public.
2023 will see the Racing Greyhound Sweepstakes being held at the Rosewood Ag Show.
We don't race in this event racing, we treat this like a beauty pageant. We employ an All Breeds Championship judge to go over our greyhounds and place them in an order as to what they desire according to their preference of the conformation of the dog.
The aim of this Event:
The Racing Greyhound Sweepstakes is an event for pups bred for racing, racing greyhounds, retired greyhounds and pets (adopted through GAPQ or an agency that is not anti-racing), which is judged around lunch time during the day.
Check in will be between 10am & 10.30am at an area to yet be established.
The aim of the Racing Greyhound Sweepstakes is to promote the Racing Industry & the Racing Greyhound from puppy, preparation for racing, racing and of course retirement. The Greyhounds versatility, suitability and adaptability of greyhounds to retirement into a forever home, after racing.
Child handlers class will include all children between the ages of 10 and 18.The class will be judged at the end of the Neutered judging.
All entire class winners will be required to compete for Best Dog & Best Bitch and go on to complete for Best in Show.
The neutered classes (dogs & bitches) will be judged and the winners of this class will be judged between them to determine Champion Neutered Greyhound.
The Dog class winners will be judged to establish the Best Dog, then the 5 Bitch winners will be judged to establish the Best Bitch. The Best Dog & the Best Bitch will compete against each other to determine Best in Show. Presentations and photographs to be taken.
We also promote:
Judges do find this difficult because they are built so different to a show greyhound. Judges who have judged our Greyhounds previously are astounded at the muscle development, the fantastic condition of our dogs and their wonderful personality. Even the Judge has a bit of fun with our dogs, he/she is relaxed because we and the dogs take this not too seriously.
The Event gives us the (Trainers, Owners and Racing Participants) a chance to show our Greyhounds off to the public and have a bit of fun at the same time. From previous experience at the Ekka, most greyhounds adapt to the crowds and the attention extremely well. The Greyhounds are like magnets with the kids.
Dress will be smart casual. Black & whites that are worn at the track are quite acceptable. Hats/caps may be needed as we will be showing in an open arena.
Bring a mat for your greyhound to lie on and extra water will not go astray. Keep your greyhound as comfortable as possible. Please keep the greyhounds away from the elements as much as possible.
Seating at this stage may be an issue so to be on the safe side, it might be wise to bring a fold up chair/stool or a blanket.
There will be some prize money for winners, sashes, rosettes, sample bags and more. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call on 0412 544 882.
